Ordering & Payment
How much does it cost?
A single referral costs $38.95 AUD — a one-time payment with no subscriptions or hidden fees. This covers your confidential questionnaire, doctor-issued pathology referral, and results notification. The lab testing itself is bulk-billed via Medicare, so there's no additional cost when you visit the pathology centre.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards via Stripe, including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Payments are processed securely — we never store your card details.
Will this show up on my bank statement in a discreet way?
Yes. Transactions appear under a generic merchant descriptor and do not reference STI testing or sexual health services directly.
Do I need Medicare to use this service?
Yes, you'll need a valid Medicare card for the bulk-billed lab testing component. If you don't have a Medicare card, contact us before ordering — we may still be able to assist with alternative arrangements.
The Test Process
How long does the whole process take?
The online form takes about 5 minutes. Your referral arrives by email within 1 hour of payment (often within minutes). The lab visit itself usually takes around 10 minutes. Results are typically ready within 3–5 business days from your lab visit.
Do I need to book an appointment at the lab?
Most pathology collection centres accept walk-ins, though some may have queues at busy times. You can check with your chosen lab directly if you'd prefer to book ahead — your referral is valid regardless.
Is fasting required before the test?
No fasting is required for the standard STI panel. You can eat and drink normally before your appointment.
Can I choose which lab to visit?
Absolutely. Your referral is valid at any participating pathology lab in Australia — including Australian Clinical Labs, Laverty Pathology, Douglass Hanly Moir, 4Cyte, QML, and Dorevitch, among others. Choose whichever is most convenient for you.
Privacy & Confidentiality
Will my GP find out about this?
No. Your GP is never notified, and this process does not appear on your shared Medicare health record in a way that's visible to other healthcare providers. Your results go directly and only to you.
Who can see my test results?
Only you, and the AHPRA-registered doctor reviewing your results as part of our service. Results are sent securely to the email and phone number you provide — nobody else has access.
Do you support all genders, orientations, and relationship types?
Yes — completely. STI Clinic Australia is built for everyone, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, or relationship structure. The questionnaire is designed to be inclusive and non-judgmental for all patients.
Results & Follow-up
How will I receive my results?
Results are sent securely via email and SMS within 3–5 business days of your lab visit. If everything is clear, you'll receive a simple "all clear" notification.
What happens if a result is positive?
If any result comes back positive, our team will reach out personally to arrange a free telehealth consultation with an AHPRA-registered doctor — at no extra cost. They'll explain your results, discuss treatment options, and support you through next steps.
What if I don't receive my results within 5 days?
Occasionally lab processing can take a little longer, especially around public holidays. If you haven't heard anything after 7 business days, please get in touch via our contact page and we'll follow up directly with the lab on your behalf.
Can I get tested again later?
Of course. Many people choose to test regularly — every 3 to 12 months depending on individual circumstances. Each test is a separate $38.95 referral with the same fast, confidential process.
